New Albany Modern Pool

A pool with deck jets and a stone terrace behind a white colonial house in New AlbanyResidential
Location
New Albany, Ohio
Property

Scope
Landscape design, Patios and hardscapes, Plantings and landscape lighting

Deck jets, a full-width stone terrace and loungers set into the paving, built to match a white colonial without fighting it.

A traditional house does not always want a traditional yard, but it does want the new work to sit down properly next to it. The terrace here runs the full width of the rear elevation in a large-format stone, kept pale so it reads as an extension of the house rather than an addition to it.

Deck jets give the pool movement and sound without adding hardware to look at. The lounging area is set into the paving rather than parked on it, and the covered porch was tied into the new levels so there is no step down onto the terrace.

Planting is deliberately restrained: Japanese maples for height at the corners, clipped evergreen at the base of the house, and nothing that will outgrow its position in three years.
